In today's podcast for The Journey: A New Generation Church of Christ, Jill Taylor reads Romans 9:14-10:13 and then her husband, Greg Taylor calls the church to experience the kind of mercy God has for Israel and the nations and at the end prays a unique prayer for our church, a form of commitment: "Because the Lord has mercy, I will have mercy, y'all." Greg also calls the church to love all people that churches are currently rejecting and condemning, and three examples of people we are called to love without knowing outcomes are Muslims, people in the LGBTQ community, and immigrants. These groups are being persecuted by Christians, and it's time to get out of the condemnation racket and into the loving business.

This podcast is part 6 of a series called, "When in Romans," and covers Romans 9-10. The title of the series comes from a book by Beverly Roberts Gaventa. Greg Taylor draws from 30 years of reading Romans and studying with scholars like James Walters, Rick Oster, and researching in original Greek and the context of Rome, where he has visited twice and seen ancient ruins. Greg also draws from sources such as N.T. Wright and what some might call the new perspective on Paul, which is in brief form the understanding that Paul is writing as a Jew who is not trying to establish a new sect but trying to bring together Jews and Gentiles into one new Israel through faith in the resurrected Messiah Jesus.
